PEBBLES GUEST HOUSE – STONE HARBOR, N. J.
Early 20th-century photograph of the house known as The Pebbles, located at 94th Street and First Avenue in Stone Harbor, New Jersey. The image shows a large three-story home with a wide front staircase, wraparound porches, and tall chimneys. Its elevated foundation and wide lot indicate its former use as a guest house. The image is black and white, likely from circa 1914 or 1915, and appears to have been taken for real estate purposes.

In recent years, this impressive house at 94th Street and First Avenue has been known as The Pebbles. Not long ago, it underwent major renovations and changes that will help carry it into its second century.

The image shown here was taken for real estate advertising around 1914 or 1915. At the time, it was one of Stone Harbor’s most desirable residential corners. Notable features included a paneled living room with open fireplace overlooking the ocean, a spacious dining room, pantry, and large kitchen with servant’s stairway.

The second floor included four large bedrooms with running water and two baths. The third floor had three rooms and a bath. Other features were plate glass doors, specially designed hardware, heater room, storage rooms, shower rooms, lavatories, and a garage. The lot measured 110 feet by 110 feet, and it was advertised as ideal for a small institution or guest house.

It was priced for a quick sale at $6,000. If you could time travel, would you move in?
