Approaching 95th Street along Second Avenue we see the ever-present town water tower that was installed in the very early 1940s.  The woman walking toward the business district on the right seems to be wearing a short sleeve summer dress which suggests a comfortable and warm day at Stone Harbor.  The Colonial Hotel as it was once called is the large two-story building on the right side of street just before one gets to 95th Street and the municipal water works.  Also, you should be able to see the two-story Fire House on the left side of Second Avenue at the intersection of 96th Street.

What I find interesting when viewing this circa 1940 image is there are areas of green space or undeveloped land on both left and right of Second Avenue so very close to the downtown commercial district.  Stone Harbor still had ample land to build on, but much of it at this time lay to the south, in the area from 96th Street down to the 111th Street area.
