Open Mic Nights – 2021

We started the OpenMic Night project in July of 2021.  Patterned after the StoryCorps and the Moth Radio Hour podcast, our goal was to bring the Stone Harbor community out for an evening of story telling.  Would it work?  Would people come out to hear – and more importantly – tell their stories?

As usual, the Stone Harbor community come through.  Hosted by Susan Zehren of the Stone Harbor Museum Board of Trustees, there were 4 Open Mic Nights, each featuring a different topic.  Sister James and Sister Andrew stopped by from Villa Maria, Mary Humphries told us some special stories about Springers, Carol Blum stopped by with tales of Henny’s, Pete Mustico shared his experiences working at several restaurants on the island, and last but not least, we were honored to have the Stone Harbor Fire, Police, and Emergency Services teams join us for a remembrance  9/11 which was broadcast Live on Facebook.

We have to admit, we weren’t ready for this kind of outpouring of support, but we’ll be ready next year!  More pictures, more audio files, and more videos.  We are already considering changing the name of the Project to ‘Remember When’ after we realized that so many people were using ‘Remember When’ in their stories.

Once again our hearts go out to the Stone Harbor community for their support of the Museum.  We wouldn’t be here without your help.
