Art & Writing Contest

The Great Stone Harbor Art & Writing Contest

                      ***************************************************************************

Due to overwhelming interest in the contest, the deadline for the Art and Writing Contest has been extended to August 12th, giving you even more time to showcase your talents and love of Stone Harbor!

                     ***************************************************************************

The Stone Harbor Museum is hosting two contests for young and old alike; an art contest and a writing contest. Let your heart and your creativity guide your hand to create images and memories that will be celebrated this year and archived for the future.

There will be $100 prizes for four winners and each entry will be posted on our website for all to enjoy. The whole contest will be hosted and judged digitally, but the best images and writings will be displayed at the museum on August 19th.  Learn more on how to enter below!

Stone Harbor Writing Contest

The Stone Harbor Museum is looking for a few good stories… poems, essays, memoirs!  The stories are there in your head and we would love to have you share them with the museum and other lovers of Stone Harbor.  For young and old alike, let the words pour out, polish them to a fine glow, send them in and let them be admired.  All of the entries will be posted weekly on our website.

Directions and Rules for the Writing Contest:

1.  There is no entrance fee. This contest is about being creative, having fun, and sharing our love of Stone Harbor.

2.  Poetry, essay, memoir and fiction are acceptable. We recommend a length of 100 to 800 words.

3.  All submissions must be sent in digitally to the following email address: Stoneharborcontest@gmail.com.

4.  Your writing should be submitted as a Word document or in an easily translated format.

5.  All entries should have a title at the beginning and your name at the end. Please indicate if you are an adult (age 16 and up) or a child (age 3 to 15).

6.  Please submit only one entry per person.

7.  Entries will be accepted from April 1st to August 12th of 2020. All entries will be posted on the StoneHarborMuseum.org website at the end of each week. They will stay up for the duration of the contest.

Judging and Voting:

Judging will be done by 3 local writers.  The contest entries must be received by August 12th.  Judges will select ten (5 entries for each category – Ages 3-15 and Ages 16 and Up) for display at the museum and on the museum website on August 19th. From these ten, six winners will be chosen (first place, second place, and third place) for each category.  The first place winners from each category will be invited to read their entries during an August 26th gathering at the museum.  If the writer is not available a designee will be available for the reading.

Usage Rights: All writers who submit their work for the contest agree that the Stone Harbor museum has to right to use that writing for display, marketing, and promotional purposes, and that it will be archived for use in the future. Any copyright remains with the author.

Art Contest for Young and Old

This is an Art Contest for young and old who love Stone Harbor and want to help celebrate the town. Be creative.  Let your love of the town show through. Think back to a time and a place when you were happy in Stone Harbor.  Paint or create that scene, that moment of time that catches Stone Harbor for you.

Kids! Need some fun while school is closed? Submit your creative home art projects today!

Win prizes, win recognition!  Winning art will be displayed at the Stone Harbor Museum August 19th, and cash prizes will be awarded at that time.

Here is how to get started: Go back over your Stone Harbor photos, videos and memories and pick out something to celebrate. Draw a picture of what you selected, for example, the seashore, a shell, the wetlands, or your favorite place in Stone Harbor.  Make a drawing, painting, a sculpture or some other artistic expression that celebrates our town. (No photography or video for this contest). Use your phone to make a quality image and send that to Stoneharborcontest@gmail.com.  Each week, all entries will be posted on a special page on our website, StoneHarborMuseum.org.

Please send in your best work. All the art will be on the website until the contest closes on August 12th and the winners announced on August 26th. There will be 2 competition categories: One for ages up to 15 years and one for ages 16 to 110 years. Please designate your age group in your email submission.
