Also known as “The Fairview”, this large 3-story building served as both a store on the first floor and apartments for rent on the second and third floors. This vintage post card depicts a popular location ideally suited for shoppers as well as renters.
Situated at 87th Street and Second Avenue, this building was directly opposite the Pennsylvania Railroad Station. On portions of lots 52, 54, 56, 58, Block 87 (60’ X 110’), there were a total of 17 rooms including 2 baths and 12 bedrooms. Fully furnished, rent was set at $500 for the
full season. The sale price for this spacious building was $7,500 with terms to suit. For orientation purposes this second photo was taken looking in an easterly direction toward the ocean and the front of the Hines building faces west. It should be noted that a wrap-around porch afforded the first and second floors with outdoor space on both the front and one side of the building. Individuals can be seen relaxing on the first floor porch at the top of the stairs in this image. There was also access and an entryway at the rear of this building. Additional details
about this structure are rather sparse but most assuredly we are once again grateful to the Stone Harbor Museum’s archives section for the information that has been provided herein.
