Here is a most interesting image showing the South Jersey Realty Company’s construction crew hard at work laying a sewer pipe on First Avenue. This photo was taken in the early years of development in Stone Harbor. Look at the very large structure in the background and to the right. That building was originally known as the Abbotsford Inn and was built in 1892 near 80th Street. It was later renamed the Harbor Inn when it was owned and operated by the Risley brothers South Jersey Realty Company. Notice the towering windmill and well also in the background which served to provide water exclusively for the Harbor Inn. Clearly Stone Harbor is beginning to take shape.
