Here is a charming colorized photograph showing the once popular mode of transport – a team of horses and a four-wheel carriage at Stone Harbor.  In the foreground is the Charles A. Kertell House, Northeast side of 97th Street between Second and Third Ave. with the brand new Shelter Haven Hotel in the background.  Circa 1912.  iiThis lovely new house appears to be all boarded up and ready to withstand the rigors of the approaching winter weather.  As you can see Third Avenue in this image is a gravel road and sidewalks as well as electricity have also been installed.
