Here are a photo and a post card both taken on July 3, 1911 and showing the official opening of the Ocean Parkway from the mainland to Stone Harbor. This two-mile vehicle procession on the occasion of the Gala Week of Festivities at Stone Harbor included then New Jersey Governor Woodrow Wilson who would officially dedicate the newly built bridge and roadway. There certainly was great cause for celebration when this milestone event took place. As you can see there is an abundance of American Flags lining the roadway entrance along with other patriotic and festive bunting and decorations. The Risley brothers using their South Jersey Realty Co. had indeed worked tirelessly to get to this point and held great optimism and high hopes for continued success in developing their vision of a “New” Stone Harbor.
