Here we see the well-known and iconic Stone Harbor landmark – the Shelter Haven Hotel – succumb to the wrecker’s ball in October 1960.
Built in the year 1912, this popular building underwent a dozen changes of ownership and endured the test of time for some 48 years. Located in the center of town, at the corner of 96th Street and Third Avenue, it didn’t take long for this structure to be demolished and with it a very familiar sight would become just an important memory for so many tourists and residents over the many years.
