No. 76 – “Marshall Stores/Apartments”
While this image is obviously not a clear or distinct photo, I nevertheless have been presenting numerous images and descriptive information about cottages and bungalows that were for sale or for rent back in the mid-1910s. It is my hope that viewers/readers will appreciate my efforts to present some more of the early structures built in Stone Harbor, N.J.
Currently located at 192 & 194 83rd Street, this property has since been converted to modern condominium residential building. A 1916 real estate brochure discovered in the Stone Harbor Museum archives provided the following descriptive information: “MARSHALL STORES/APTS. – 1916 / A massive early 20th century business building, the ‘Marshall’ offered store fronts on the ground floor and 10 rooms with bath, porches and laundry for $300 the season. A family vacation in Stone Harbor was touted as being less expensive for vegetables, fish, crab and oysters. A season daily rail pass, Philadelphia/Stone Harbor cost 42 cents a trip taking just 95 minutes by the Reading Railway express service”.
